GW IT has 3D printers for SEAS students and faculty to use for projects and as part of their curriculum. The available hardware includes:
The Makerbot and Stratasys 3D printers are located on the fourth floor of Tompkins Hall. There is no charge to use the 3D equipment, but they are limited to academic and research projects only. To submit a 3D Printing Request, you must fill out the request form below. The maximum dimensions and plastic types can be found here:
|Printer||Max Dimensions (LxWxH, in)||Available Plastic|
|Ultimaker S5||13 x 9.4 x 11.8||PLA|
|Makerbot 5th Generation||11.6 x 7.6 x 6.5||PLA|
|Stratasys F170||10 x 10 x 10||PLA, ABS|
All requests on the Stratasys F170 printers will be completed using ABS unless otherwise specified.
Please check these requirements below prior to submitting any print job:
Your model must be saved as an .stl file from your CAD software (exported from Pro/E, AutoCAD, etc.)Object dimensions should be the perimeter dimensions of your object if it were a rectangle. For example, if your object is a sphere with a diameter of 4mm, you should write 4mm x 4mm x 4mm. This is to ensure the object’s correct size is maintained.
Once GW IT receives a printing request, the model will be prepared for printing. A staff member will respond once the model as started printing and when the model is ready to be picked up. Allow 3-5 business days to process. During periods of heavier use, expect longer delays (i.e. during midterms and finals season). If you have additional models to be printed for the same project, please submit a separate request for each model.
