Research:
Prof. Tim Wood (CS) received a two year, $250,000 grant from NSF's Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace division. The project, titled “EVADE: Evidence Assisted Detection and Evasion of Security Vulnerabilities,” is a joint effort with researchers from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and will explore operating system techniques to efficiently detect attacks before they are able to adversely affect a system.
Publications:
Prof. Ergun Simsek (ECE) and his co-author and former post-doc, Bablu Mukerjee, have published the following article: B. Mukherjee and E. Simsek. “Plasmonics Enhanced Average Broadband Absorption of Monolayer MoS2,” Plasmonics, Vol. 10, No. 55, pp. 1-5 (2015). From fabrication to characterization, all the experimental work covered in the paper was accomplished in Prof. Simsek’s lab and through GWIN. Their work uses one of their recent MoS2 papers, which became one of the top downloaded articles of OSA (the Optical Society of America) for the second time this year, first in February and again in August.
Conferences & Presentations:
Research Professor Ashraf Imam (MAE) presented the following talks at the 13th International Conference on Titanium, held August 17-20 in San Diego, CA: 1) Consolidation of Cristal Metals' Powder of Titanium and its Alloys by Microwave Energy to Near-Net Shape; 2) Sustainable Low Cost Titanium Oxide Production: A Concept; 3) Characterization of CSIR-Ti Powder and its Consolidation by Microwave Sintering; and 4) The Additive Manufacturing (AM) of Titanium Alloys. Prof. Imam also chaired the following sessions: 1) Extraction and Powder Production I; 2) Extraction and Powder Production III; and 3) Additive and Near Net Shape Manufacturing IV. The conference is held every four years to assess the national significance and development of titanium in relation to the technical needs of seven international committee member countries (i.e., the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Russia, France, Germany, and China). It was attended by more than 400 professionals from thirty countries.

The DC I-Corps Fed Tech program will offer its graduate level class this fall on Saturdays, beginning September 19 and running through November 7. The class provides graduate-level business and engineering students with hands-on experience building successful businesses that commercialize cutting-edge technologies from federal labs like NASA and the Naval Research Laboratory.
