Conferences & Presentations:
Dr. Tarek El-Ghazawi (ECE) delivered a keynote address on September 6 at the 31st IEEE International System-On-Chip Conference. His keynote lecture was titled “New Paradigms for Energy-Efficient Computing Beyond the Moore’s Law Era.” In addition to sharing his vision for computing and future processors, he also covered some of the work that he is currently undertaking in cooperation with Dr. Volker Sorger (ECE) on ultra-low power future nano-photonic enabled processors. The work is funded by the National Science Foundation, SRC, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and it covers analog computing, neuromorphic computing, and residue-arithmetic-based processing in the network.

 

Dr. Tianshu Li (CEE) and his collaborators from the United Kingdom organized the CECAM (Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire) workshop, held September 18-21 at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, in Lausanne, Switzerland. The workshop was titled “Heterogeneous Ice Nucleation: The Ultimate Challenge for Molecular Modelling?”

 

Dr. Volker Sorger (ECE) gave a talk titled “Photonic Neuromporphic Computing with Electro-optic Nonlinear Activation” at the IEEE PSC conference, held September 19-21 in Limassol, Cyprus.

CVP Panel

On September 25, the management and technology consulting company CVP hosted an intimate panel and networking session titled “Navigating Your Career” at SEAS. The event was open to all GW students and was part of the CVP Speakers Series @ GW. Panelists included Maria Roat, CIO of the Small Business Administration; Meagan Metzger, CEO of Dcode; GW alumna Shamaa Ahmad, director of solution innovation at CVP; and the panel moderator, Raelene Wagoner, CVP’s vice president, human resources. CVP was founded by SEAS alumnus Anirudh Kulkarni.

Entrepreneurship News & Events
NSF 2026 Idea Machine: This is a competition to help set the U.S. agenda for fundamental research in science and engineering. Participants can earn prizes and receive public recognition by suggesting the pressing research questions that need to be answered in the coming decade, the next set of “Big Ideas” for future investment by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The deadline to enter is October 26.

 

NSF I-Corps AccelerateGW Introduction to I-Corps Course: The next offering of the National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps AccelerateGW Introduction to I-Corps Course will begin on October 24. This two-week workshop introduces participants to the key concepts and techniques of the Lean Startup method for exploring the commercial potential of new technologies, as used in the NSF I-Corps program. The course requires participants to attend three half-day, in-person sessions in Foggy Bottom and to conduct 20 customer interviews over the two weeks of the course. GW teams that are accepted are eligible for a $3,000 grant to cover expenses for doing customer discovery interviews through the AccelerateGW I-Corps Site program.
