While he was enlisted in the Navy Gregory Drake--stationed in Washington, DC--became interested in the field of engineering. “I found myself working with a team of electrical engineers,” Drake explains. “This eventually led me into an increasing interest in radio-frequency engineering.” He adds, “At first, I thought this would begin as a seemingly improbable idea. However, it actually turned to feed a passion for creative thinking and just being a technical individual.”

While searching for universities, Drake was drawn to SEAS’s curriculum as well as the school’s support of part-time and veteran students. “After careful planning and working with the staff at GWU, I decided to pursue an electrical engineering degree,” Drake explains. “I really enjoyed my time working with the professors and other undergraduate students.”

As a student, Drake worked at the Department of the Navy as a radar systems analyst. Next year, he will continue his education at GW as a master’s student in applied electromagnetics. “The graduate classes at GWU will increase my knowledge on this subject area and will broaden my scope in other areas related to radio frequency,” Drake says. “While studying for my undergraduate degree, SEAS laid the foundation for the future work that I will do.”
