NOTES ON NOTE-TAKING -------------------- Expectations of note-takers: * Submit a Tex or Latex file with associated (if appropriate) postscript figures. * Generally, your notes should read smoother than the slides we've been seeing in class. Where possible, insert references (to papers, the textbook etc). If notation could use elaboration with an example, provide an example. * Submit a first draft of this material within two weeks of the lecture to the appropriate professor. The professor will then make suggestions leading up to a final version. * Submitting your final version: create a tar-file with your Tex/Latex file and the postscript figures, put it in your main directory and send email to Steve Daknis (with cc to Prof.Simha) letting Steve know that your file is ready to copy. When un-tarred, it should create a directory called lecture1 (substitute the appropriate number for lecture n) with the files in it. Submit a hardcopy of your notes to Prof. Simha. * Your Tex/Latex file should be self-contained. Include in it any macros you use. What to do when your instructor uses slides: * Obtain a copy of his/her Tex/Latex files and postscript figures (if applicable). * Edit the slides, substituting full sentences or additional explanation where appropriate.
