Nguyen Wins NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Award
Tuong Linh Nguyen, a first-year doctoral student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recently selected to receive a 2008 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship award. The award will provide up to three years of support for Nguyen’s graduate study. Nguyen is studying under Professor Pedro Silva of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and her research topic is "Comprehensive Analyses of Bridge Columns under Complex Loading Conditions," which is a look at bridge column responses to near field earthquakes. Nguyen’s award is provided under the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program, whose goal is to ensure the vitality of the scientific and technological workforce in the United States by supporting the graduate study of promising individuals.
