Knowledge and Information Management
KIM

The previous focus areas of Information Security Management, Knowledge Management, and Software Engineering and Information Systems Management have been combined into a powerful single curriculum called Knowledge and Information Management (KIM). KIM provides students with the skills and knowledge required to manage highly networked enterprises in the global economy and to develop competitive recommendations for success in a highly competitive environment. The program of study is technology independent so what you learn today will be applicable in all the possible tomorrows.

The required classes in the KIM focus area are:

EMSE 212 Management of Technical Organizations
EMSE 260 Finance and Engineering Economics
EMSE 269 Problem Solving & Decision Making
EMSE 283 Systems Engineering I
EMSE 218 Management of Information Security
EMSE 256 Information Management & Systems
EMSE 270 Knowledge Management I
EMSE 295 Database Design and DBMS
EMSE 297 Problems in Engineering Management

Students may choose to use the electives to focus on a specialty area, such as Knowledge Management, Information Security Management, or Software Engineering and Information Systems Management.  Three electives are required, at least one from the following table, as approved by the adviser.

Tips & Pointers

You can find the semester schedule information from the "Academic Calendar" link. This includes scheduled holidays.

Yes, you do need to fill out an application for graduation to get your certificate! But not the 401x certificates. For those, see Dr. Ryan during her office hours.

Not in the DC area? See the NSA website for a list of all the Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
