On November 11, 2000, 13 teams from 7 schools competed at Johns Hopkins University for the Mid-Atlantic Regional competition. There were a total of 139 teams from 65 schools competing at 7 sites in the Regionals on that date.
The prize was a chance to be one of 65 teams to compete at the International Finals March 7-11, 2001 in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
GW fielded two teams: GW1 & GW2. GW1 consisted of Justin Cutler, Chad Parry, and Peter Swanson, all senior CS majors. GW2 consisted of Justin Cohen, Freshman in CS, Eric Denman, Freshman in CS, and Matthew Norris, Junior in CS. There were two alternates: Howard Sherman, Junior in CS, and Naveen Ahuja, Junior in Computer Engineering. Both teams were coached by Prof. Robert W. Lindeman of the Department of Computer Science.

GW1 placed 1st at the Hopkins site, and 3rd overall in the Region.
GW2 placed 7th at the Hopkins site, and 28th overall in the Region.
The performance by GW1 has qualified them for one of two "wildcard" spots from the Mid-Atlantic Region in the Finals!
There were a total of 2,200 teams worldwide that competed for one of the 65 slots at the Finals.
