2. Research Program of The Center for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CDMHA):
2002 letters of intent will likely be due in November. Request for 2001proposals titled "Collaborative Research on Disasters in the Americas" included three categories: (1) public health issues in disasters; (2) social science, disasters and development; and (3) information technology and decision science applied to disaster management. Approximately $600,000 was made available to fund 4-6 one-year projects with budgets up to $150,000 each. The CDMHA's competitive grant program is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) through the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

3. United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command: Department of Defense Broad Agency Announcement
BAA 02-1, Fort Detrick, MD; Medical Biological Defense Research Program -- Examples of some of the infectious agents of interest are those causing anthrax, plague, glanders; the Ebola, Marburg, Venezuelan, western and eastern equine encephalitis viruses; and poxvirus models of variola virus. Examples of toxins of interest include those from plants (ricin); bacteria (Staphylococcal enterotoxins, botulinum) and membrane damaging toxins and venoms from snakes, snails and insects.
