Course Policy

1. Collaboration Policy

You are required to do all homeworks and laboratory activities by yourself. Collaborating with other students or copying their work or others' will not be tolerated. Anyone found copying or using another person's work will be dealt with under the university's procedures for cheating. If in doubt about what kinds of consultations are allowed, please check with the instructor immediately. Please read  the policy on  GWU academic dishomesty. http://www.gwu.edu/~ntegrity/ . It is very easy for the GTA's to find evidence of copying or cheating, and the punishments are definitely not worth the risk.

2.Labnote/Homework Submission Policy

There will be 11 laboratory reports during the semester plus additional lecture homeworks.  Due to the large size of the class and the requirements for pre-lab, your GTA's have set up specific times to grade each session's assignments so that  you  have enough time to finish your lab reports and pre-lab.

Section Time Day Labnote/Homework Drop-in  Labnote/Homework Pick-up
Lecture (ECE11-10) 2:00-3:50  PM TUE, THU  TBD TBD
Lab (ECE11-30) 6:10-10:00  PM  TUE FRI 5:00PM MON
Lab (ECE11-31) 2:00-5:50PM WED FRI 5:00PM MON

* All the Labnotes are to be  dropped in / picked up from  the box at Academic Center 634.
* Unless we specify otherwise, Lab Repots and homework should be submitted in hard copy.  This is a really large class and the GTA's cannot afford the overhead of  printing out electronic homework submissions for grading.

3. Policy for Late Submissions:

- Labnotes submitted later than the above time  are considered late.  Late Labnotes will not be accepted unless there is a valid medical or family condition with appropriate documentation submitted to the course instructor and your GTA.

- However, everybody in the ECE11 class enjoys a one time "No-penalty Late Submission" for  Labnotes and Take-home Labquiz during this semester. How you use your  "Non-penalty Late Submission" is up to you; however, we strongly suggest you save this chance  during your midterm period, your religious holidays or any other unexpected circumstances. One week is provided for your benefit,  i.e, your late Labnotes will be graded together with the new one.  But this is the ONLY time in your ECE11 journey your GTA will accept  any other late  homeworks  from you.

4. Attendance policy:

You are expected to be present at every  laboratory session. If you want to switch your section, you have to submit a request and obtain the agreement from GTA's. If you finish you  lab in less than 3 hours, you have to submit all your results before leaving. No make up sessions will be held.

Course Contents

Lecture Homeworks:
Occasionally your instructor will assign homeworks during the lecture. It is important that you complete this homework on time. Problems in the homeworks and problems solved in class tend to appear in quizzes/tests. So, it is your loss if you do not do your homework on time.

Experiments:
Answer all questions pertaining to each experiment as required. Your data should include all calculations, circuit diagrams, graphs, and data tables. Your interpretation and comprehension of the experimental results should be described in a concluding statement and also placed in your report.

Simulation Assignments:
You will be required to model several different circuits using OrCad 9.2.  These assignments are due at the beginning of the laboratory class on the date indicated. Completed assignments that are submitted after the class begins will receive no grade but are still due.

??Lecture Quizzes/Tests (TBD):
All Lecture Quizzes are in class and closed book/notes. Calculators are allowed. There will be 6 lecture quizzes of which we will count the best 5. The quiz with the lowest grade will be dropped. If you cannot make a quiz for ANY reason, the grade will be a zero. No make-up quizzes will be given. Lecture quiz problems will periodically test your knowledge of concepts explained in the class, covered in the homeworks and in some cases emphasized in the laboratory session.

Lab Home Quizzes:
All Lab Home Quizzes are take home and are due on the next scheduled lab. There will be 8 lab home quizzes.

Final Project:
There will be one Final Project (to be specified later) for the course. The Final Project grade consists of a working demonstration of your design, a professional presentation of 5-10 minutes and a formal written report.

Final Examination:
There will be a final examination at the end of the semester. It will test all your knowledge from the lecture, laboratory and homeworks. It will be closed book and closed notes. Calculators are allowed as usual.
