Professor Yin-Lin Shen is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  His research interests are in metrology, precision engineering, and computer-integrated design and manufacturing.  Specifically, he conducts research on nanoscale measurement instrumentation and techniques, the development of nano-probes for ultraprecision dimensional metrology, and high resolution graphic simulation of numerically controlled milling processes.

Professor Shen has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award and Research Initiation Award for research projects in automated dimensional measurement and metrology in manufacturing research and education. He also conducts collaborative research with researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.  He is a certified manufacturing engineer, and is a member of the following honorary societies and professional societies: Pi Tau Sigma, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society for Precision Engineering, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
