Welcome!

As a new student in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, you will be participating in our New Student Getaway. (It is good to be an engineer!)

What is the New Student Getaway? It is a trip for three days to wild and wonderful West Virginia. You will stay in cabins, participate in all sorts of activities (like rafting, hiking, paint ball, and rock climbing, to name a few), and most importantly get to know your fellow engineers!

You will also be assigned a mentor, a current engineering student, who will stay with you and will be able to answer your questions for the upcoming year. It's SEAS’ way of giving you a head start.

How much does it cost? This program is FREE!! (It's great to be an engineer!)

What does this mean for you? First of all, this means that you will be invited to move in early on Sunday, August 23rd, before everyone else. That means no lines to check in, no competition with other students for the elevator, and you get first choice for your space in your residence hall room.

Is attendance mandatory? Yes, attendance is mandatory.

Getting there. We will be providing round trip transportation by coach bus between GWU and West Virginia. We will depart early for the Getaway on Monday, 24 August and return on Wednesday, 26 August.

We understand that you may have questions—but please hold tight! You will get complete details at Colonial Inauguration (CI). If you have a burning question in the meantime, please contact Matthew Knouse, at uggweng@gwu.edu.

Below you will find forms that you must complete to participate in the Getaway. If you are under 18, be sure to have your parents sign the Program Agreement and Emergency Contact Information and the Contract and Liability Waiver forms and bring them to CI.
