SEAS Alumnus Larry Sumney Receives National Medal of Technology on Behalf of SRC
On July 27th, President Bush presented the National Medal of Technology to Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) for its critical contributions to the U.S. chip industry. Receiving the award for SRC was Larry W. Sumney (MEA '69), the CEO and president of SRC and a SEAS alumnus.
The National Medal of Technology represents the nation’s highest honor for technological innovation. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce,
SRC was recognized “for building the world’s largest and most successful university research force to support the rapid growth of the semiconductor industry; for proving the concept of collaborative research as the first high-tech research consortium; and for creating the concept and methodology that evolved into the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors.”
Based in Research Park, North Carolina, SRC is a university-research consortium for semiconductors and related technologies. Larry Sumney has been CEO and president of SRC since its inception 25 years ago
