GW Graduate Ambassadors

Meet our current students and their prospective about their research at GW and life on campus. You can email them at: engrgrad@gwu.edu.

saisSasitorn Thongtan:

I am a SEAS graduate student ambassador at GW and a Master degree student in the field of Computer Science. My concentration in Computer Science is Network Security and Information Assurance. Before I come to study here at GW with SEAS, I earned my Bachelor in Computer Science at KMITL in Thailand and worked with Thomson Reuters software (Thailand) Limited as a software engineer. I found that the courses that SEAS provides are broad with the intense in the knowledge that I have gained as well as the skilled development course works assigned by intelligent professors of every course I had taken. For example, I approached 3 projects for one project assignment of one of the network security related courses. I had an inspiration to implement extra projects because of the fantastic professor who provided broad and understandable knowledge fundamentally as well as that is used in the real world. The final exam of these courses were intended by the intelligent professor for the students to understand the world's up-to-date topics related to Network Security such as Cloud computing security and many others. Another favorite course is Information Retrieval which I could deeply learn how Information Retrieval System works from the beginning of the course through the final exam and beyond. As a result, within 1 year at GW, I have gained strong knowledge in the field of Computer Science as well as professional skills developed from those high standard graduate level courses at GW approached by exceptional professors with top-notch students in every class.

scottScott Trocchia:

My name is Scott Trocchia, a first year ECE graduate student enrolled in an accelerated 5-year Bachelor's/Master's combination program with a major in Computer Engineering and a concentration in Microelectronics and VLSI Systems. I am currently conducting research at the Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, MD, where I am characterizing state-of-the-art graphene field effect transistors. At GW, I have had the opportunity to organize a social engineering conference for Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honors Society, and to be a part of an esteemed freshmen mentoring program. As an avid sports fan, I have also been involved with the premier on campus radio station, WRGW.

moeMohammad Mehdi Nayebpour:

My name is Mohammad Mehdi Nayebpour. I am a SEAS graduate ambassador and a proud Iranian-American. I earned my bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology. Now I am finishing my second year of master's program in Systems Engineering. At my program in department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering I am doing research on "Interoperability Measurement Models" and "Complexity Measurement Models". As an ardent opera enthusiast, I have been working with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center. Living in Washington DC gave me the opportunity to work in community outreach programs at DC constituency office. At GWU I have found the most incredible advisors who encourage you to tackle any conventional wisdom and believe in you own ideas. So don't be afraid of big names and great ideas.

indrajeetIndrajeet Viswanathan:

Indrajeet Viswanathan is a current graduate student at the School of Engineering & Applied Science. He belongs to the Engineering Management department and specalizes in Environmental & Energy Engineering. Indrajeet completed his undergraduate degree in 2007 from University of Mumbai, India and went on to work in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for 2 years as an Estimation and Sales Engineer. Indrajeet completed his current summer internship at a Optony Solar, his project involved doing a feasibility study on the roof tops of DC Public Schools to estimate their solar potential. Indrajeet is currently training for his first marathon in November in Charlotte.

lingLingqiao Qin:

I always feel grateful just to be able to make the best choice to study in Transportation Safety and Security Engineering at the George Washington University. I never thought that we can perform real crash tests, perform FE modeling for all kinds of vehicles, have seminars and guest lectures with those authorities from Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and so on. In sum, there are more resources than you think to assist you study or do research work in the field of transportation safety. Additionally, I am more than happy to be the GW ambassador to introduce the GW's unique graduate programs and answer applicants or new students' questions. Welcome to GW!!!

ashleyAshley Kowalski:

Ashley Kowalski is a first-year M.S. student in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She is focusing on Fluid Mechanics, Thermal Sciences, and Energy. Once she completed her undergraduate degree also with the GWU MAE Department in May 2011, she spent her summer in Beijing, China at the Beijing Jiaotong University performing research on fuel cells after receiving a National Science Foundation International Research Experiences for Students Fellowship. In her free time, she enjoys working at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, traveling to foreign countries, learning languages, dancing, and playing the piano.
